5 things to do in Liverpool

Liverpool is one of the UK’s most visited cities. World famous for football and the Beatles the city attracts over 60 million visitors a year. Here’s our list of 5 of our favourite things to do in Liverpool

Visit the Albert Docks.

Liverpool became a major influence on world events during the 19th century. It was the gateway to Northern England which was driving the global Industrial Revolution. Liverpool’s docks were amongst the busiest in the world. Named after Prince Albert the docks were the most impressive anywhere in the world. Ships were loaded and unloaded in rocord times. Traders could buy and sell goods right at the docks making it the hot bed of commerce.

In the 20th century and especially in post war Britain the docks became redundant. It wasn’t until the 1980’s that work began to turn them from wasteland to a community of restuarants, bars, hotels, offices and great apartments.

It’s a great place to wander around, grab a bite to eat and visit some of our best museums.

Follow in the footsteps of the Fab four

OK. So this one can be a bit cheesy but if you haven’t yet done it you should go and take a Beatles tour. There are literally hundreds of tours to take. Make sure your tour is led by a local and has good reviews and always always try and book direct. Many travellers use online agencies like tripadvisor to make their bookings without knowing that the agency keeps upto 40% for commissions. Book direct if you can.

Take in a football match

Another thing we are famous for is football. Both Liverpool and Everton have full houses every week but there are always some tickets flying around if you look hard enough. Everton will soon be moving to their new stadium so if you can get to Goodison park soon you’ll see a real old school English football ground.

Take a world famous ferry across the Mersey

Liverpool’s skyline is constantly changing and one of the best ways to view this is from a Mersey ferry as you sail across the Mersey. Mersey ferries offer evening cruises and even do a rally interesting trip down the Manchester ship canal where you can learn about the Industrial revolution and how the Mersey played a huge role.
